Experience the sheer joy of singing with Harmony Live

1.Group wavingOctober 14th sees Harmony Live come to One Church , Brighton. Harmony Live is a mass community singing experience of heart-warming spine-tingling proportions led by experienced and inspirational choir leaders. We catch up with Janna Goodwille to find out more about this exciting singing workshop.

Janna is a musician & choir leader based in London. Since 2009 she has encouraged people to sing – working with schools, community groups, offices & everyone in between. She is now co-leader & co-founder of Harmony Live with Sophia Efthimiou and Dominic Stichbury.

How did the idea for Harmony Live Workshops come about ?

Harmony Live came about through a collaboration between like-minded choir leaders who wanted to create a day-long fun and inclusive mass-singing workshop suitable for everybody. Myself, Dominic Stichbury, Sophia Efthimiou & Jamie Dawes who are co-leading this year’s series of workshops are all experienced community choir leaders who know how to encourage a newly formed group to use their voice and creating spine-tingling harmonies.

Would the workshop be suitable for someone who has never sung in a choir before ?

Absolutely. The workshop is designed for everyone, including people who have never sung in a choir. We teach everything by ear at a measured pace and the group is large enough that those with less confidence or experience will find themselves carried along by fellow singers. A unique aspect of Harmony Live is that we have 4 leaders to help support everyone in the group.

October 14th sees Harmony Live come to One Church Brighton what can people expect ?

This October, like previous workshops, we’ve carefully selecting a varied set of songs from

London Harmony Live at Wheatsheaf Hall, Vauxhall on Saturday 17th October

different traditions & genres – some you may recognise, some you may not – but all arranged & prepared to be picked up easily by ear and satisfying to sing. We’ll start the day off slowly with simple warm-ups for our voice and gradually move into learning some juicy harmony songs. The One Church is a glorious space to sing in so we know it will sound good!

We understand you have a new guest leader Jamie Dawes this year, how did he become involved with the workshops?

Our previous tenor leader had a baby and was unable to commit anymore. Jamie is a friend and colleague and we’re very pleased he was able to join us for the Brighton date as well as our two London workshops.

Do people have to book their place in advance and if so how do they do that?

Most of our workshops have sold out before the day so we encourage people to book in advance. Tickets can be booked and more information found at the link below, including a mini-documentary video that transports you right inside a Harmony Live workshop:

If you could sum up the workshops in three words what would they be ?

Fun, energising & heart-warming.
