A group of parents and staff at Downs View Special School in Brighton, are putting on their first fundraising Cabaret Evening to raise much needed funds for minibuses. The school in Woodingdean and the Link College in Withdean are for children and young people with a wide range of disabilities and life threatening conditions. Minibuses help them go on trips and learn about the world in which we all live. They are quite simply essential.
Fundraising for one minibus on each site takes time, and fundraising has been in earnest all year. People have run marathons, the Santa dash, danced Zumba, and held collections at work. All of the people involved in the fundraising group are volunteers so all the money raised goes straight to the minibus fund.
This time they have organised a Cabaret Evening on Friday 24th June, which is open to all adults. Susanne Crosby, Chair of the Friends Committee is also performing at the Cabaret Evening as part of the girl group the Dazzling Divas. “My 10 year old daughter Mia goes to the School which is a truly wonderful place for her. I think it’s brilliant to be able to give something back, by performing at the Cabaret Evening. It’s a first for the school, and I know it’ll be great for everyone to let their hair down and have a good time.” The evening also features the saucy stylings of “Connie” and a disco party with Crucial Sounds. “It’s amazing that everyone involved is giving their time for free to raise money for the minibuses, all the performers and disco too.” added Susanne. Tickets are on sale now on the Friends of Downs View website.
