Round 3 of the six-round 2018/19 HSBC UK | Cyclo-Cross National Trophy series will be held at the South of England showground in Ardingly. The event will be hosted on 10-11 November 2018 by volunteers from the Crawley Wheelers cycling club whose membership spans Mid-Sussex.
Cyclo-cross has traditionally been popular in Northern Europe but has become one of the UK’s fastest growing sports with British riders like Evie Richards, Ben Tullett and Tom Pidcock becoming World Champions in recent years. It’s often described as the cycling version of the steeplechase with riders racing on twisty courses around muddy fields on bikes that look like a cross between road bikes and mountain bikes.
The Ardingly venue has previously been used for rounds of the Sussex cyclo-cross league and the course has featured obstacles like stairs and hurdles that force riders to dismount and run whilst carrying their bikes.
Entry for spectators is free and the event will feature a beer tent, serving up great local ales and food. More information will be available on the Crawley Wheelers website (www.crawleywheelers.co.uk).
